Passion Week

The Lord Jesus Christ went to the cross 2000 years ago to bear the sins of the world. He died for you and me so that we could have eternal life if we choose to acknowledge our sins, ask forgiveness and accept God's free gift of Salvation through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

Easter is a time for me to reflect upon the depth and extend of God's love for mankind. It humbles me to know that Jesus Christ suffered and bore my sin and shame. If He did not go through with it, then I would have no hope of Salvation. God loves us all very, very deeply. He not only said it, but showed it through His actions. His example instills in me a stronger desire to show love, mercy and grace towards the people in my life. It's not an easy thing to do, but I'm trying. I hope you'll take some time this Easter to reflect upon this Truth.

This is a screen shot from the Passion of the Christ movie. I extended the scene and did a quick paintover. Please forgive me for not attempting to do this from scratch. It was a tough and busy week. However, I wanted to use this opportunity to experiment with some unfamiliar photoshop brushes. Unfortunately, I did not have my tablet on hand, so I used a mouse instead which was a little cumbersome and frustrating. The colors and lighting were modified from the original movie image because photoshop is so cool!

Leo Tolstoy

Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, commonly referred in English as Leo Tolstoy was born August 28th, 1828 in Yasnaya Polyana, Russia. Leo was a Russian novelist, writer, philosopher, essayist, educational reformer, vegetarian, and a guy with a wild and outa-control beard. Mr. Leo is regarded as one of the greatest novelists, recognized for his masterpiece War and Peace. I've never read it, but I know it's quite thick. I don't know if it has any pretty pictures in it or not. Probably not. I like my books with large fonts and colorful pictures. I don't really know much about him, but came across his picture and thought he had interesting facial features. Leo passed away on November 20th, 1910 in Astapovo, Russia.

As with the previous post, this was sketched on 100% recycled Kraft stock with VERITHIN 741 Indigo Blue for linework and Prisma PC938 Blanc for some highlights. The rest of the coloring was done via Photoshop. Perhaps the next sketch will be of a native indian chief or something.

William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891)

I was looking at Ryan Wood's blog and was inspired by his Civil Wars heads. So here is my stab at the subject. The person depicted is William Tecumseh Sherman, born on February 8th, 1820. He was an American soldier, businessman, educator, and author. He served as a general in the United States Army during the 1861-65 American Civil War. He served under General Ulysses S. Grant in '62 & '63 and participated in the campaigns that led to the fall of the Confederate stronghold of Vicksburg on the Mississippi River. In 1864, Sherman succeeded Grant as the Union commander. Yeah Baby!

Sketched on 100% recycled Kraft stock with VERITHIN 741 Indigo Blue for linework and Prisma PC938 Blanc for subtle highlights.
Coloring it in Photoshop was the fun part.

The Barbarian

It's not fair. Five bad guys verses one good guy. Oh well, I guess he's gonna miss his hair appointment at 2pm. Time to whip out the big sword and start swinging away. Bad dudes beware, no one messes with a barbarian on his way to see his stylist. I had time to squeeze out one more sketch tonight. Sketched it quickly and colored it somewhat loosely. Time to say nighty night!

300

Haven't seen the film yet, but I'm told it's really good and gory in an epic sense. I felt like sketching a few worked off of images found on the internet. It's done in ink and colored in Photoshop.

Mary Little Scary

Mary Little Scary is lost and lonely. Her tattered teddy bear gives her some companionship, but the nights are cold and silent. Only if her tattered teddy could speak and utter words of life and encouragement, might her mood be lifted up. Then perhaps she'd feel the warmth return and have circulation in her vessels and capillaries.

Behemoth

Last night I did a quick sketch of some sort of big beast that I imagined was flying powerfully through the air. My wife and I were doing laundry during the time. I guess I hate doing laundry, thus such an image came about. I spent about thirty minutes doing this coloring to see where it would go. The massive wings I imagined earlier have yet to be further defined. The drawing was done with ink and scanned in.
