Kingdom Animalia - Hippopotamus Amphibius

viewview

The Hippopotamus Amphibius is a large plant-eating African mammal. They are gregarious and live in pods of about 40 members. The male is referred to as a bull, while the female is called a cow. A little baby is known as a calf. The typical lifespan of these creatures is about 45 years. Average height is 5 ft tall at the shoulders and 11 ft in length. Weight for males can range between 3,300 to 7,000 lbs! And although they are quite bulky, did you know that hippos can run faster than a human on land? Studies that show their running speeds varying at 30km/h (18 mph) to 50 km/h (30 mph)! However, they can only maintain such velocity for a few hundred meters or yards.

I find the anatomical structure and shapes of animals fascinating. I would like to sketch more to study and appreciate how God put them together in their unique ways. I see the creativity, diversity, ingenuity and perfect 'design sense' of the creator gloriously displayed throughout all of nature. God is awesome indeed!

I inked this with a ball-point pen over a loose pencil sketch on smooth newsprint. Minor color adjustments were done in the computer and text treatments were added for graphic-design aesthetics.

Stu, these days when I read your blog I feel like I'm reading a script from either the History Channel or National Geographic

Not only do I like to make pretty pictures for people to see, but to be informative and educate the masses with content that I cut paste from Wikipedia.
