Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey who would later be known as Frederick Douglass was born as a slave in Talbot County, Maryland. He was an American abolitionist, editor, author, orator, statesman and reformer. Frederick Douglass was one of the most influential lecturers and authors in American history. He was a firm believer in the equality of all people, whether black, female, American Indian, or recent immigrant and spent his life advocating the brotherhood of all humankind.
I sketched this last Saturday night on 100% recycled Kraft stock with a VERTHIN 756 Dark Umber for the linework and a Prisma PC938 Blanc for highlights. Coloring was done via Photoshop as usual. It took about 1 hour for the sketch and 30 minutes for the coloring. It was quick and spontaneous...just the way I like it!

I am working on revising a web site for the Frederick Douglass Project in Maryland. I was wondering if you would allow us to use the artwork you created on our site.
We are raising money to erect a memorial statue at the courthouse in Easton, Maryland. The current website is: http://www.frederickdouglassproject.org/
We would of course credit you as the illustrator.
Thank you for your kind consideration of this request.
